Alastair Elkes-Jones

Born in Llangollen in 1942 Alastair spent his childhood and formative years in the industrial and rural climate of North Wales. Since 1971 he has lived on the South Wales coast working at his studio in Mumbles. Painting has been a life long pursuit unencumbered by formal training. He works primarily in oils and takes his inspiration from the imagery of rural and coastal South Wales and the people who live and work there. More recently floral still life has begun to play an increasingly important part in his development. Currently, he sits in on theatre rehearsals working on the beginnings of a series of paintings to capture the vibrancy and movement of Modern Dance.
