Derek Menary
Was born in Belfast. He Studied at Belfast College of Arts,
followed by Studentship with Belfast Arts Theatre. From 1965
- 70, he worked in the professional theatre
and BBC Television (London) in Production and Design. In 1970, Menary left
television to become a student at Dartington College of Arts. Devon. He has
exhibited widely, both in the UK and abroad, including London Contemporary
Art Fairs 1990-96, The Royal Academy, Royal West of England Academy and Bath
Contemporary Art Fair. His style is invigorating. He uses bold, energetic strokes
of colour, usually in acrylic and gesso, to portray the moorlands and hills
that are so familiar to him.
