Ken Howard
Was
born in 1932 and studied at Hornsey College of Art 1943-53,
Royal College of Art 1955-58 and was awarded a British Council
Scholarship to Florence 1958-59. His earlier work was much
darker in tone but gradually over the years his palette has
lightened. Light now plays a predominant part, whether in
his studio interiors or in his beach scenes or studies of
Venice. He is a painter in the Sickertian tradition. His
work has developed steadily and his election to the Royal
Academy in 1983 was recognition of that development. The
sensitivity and sometimes sensuality in his work strikes
an immediate appeal.
