Steelwork for Corby Flats

Agora Services have now completed the fabrication a number of balconies and steelwork for a building project in Corby.  The development of eighteen two bedroom flats built for the rental market by Rutland Homes is sited in the heart of Corby.  A number of the flats having balconies, both rectangular and semi circular, and semi circular bay windows.  We had already supplied the support columns for the balconies, the support steelwork for the bay windows, juliet balconies, and the special structural lintels for the building.

The balconies consist of a PFC frame, which will be timber clad by the client, with fully welded steel railings.  The frames and railings are to be supplied hot galvanised, with the railings having a final coating of polyester powder coat in semi matt black finish.

This project is now complete and the flat are currently up to let.  We hope to get some photos of the finished/installed balconies shortly, these will be added to page, so please visit again at a later date.

Refurbishment of Grove Scissor Lift

Agora replaced the cage on this scissor lift for a neighbouring company. This had been purchased second hand and the cage was damaged, causing the extending section to stick. This was all replace, and is now awaiting new bearing bushes and stubs on the steering wheels.

800mm Diameter Galvanised Ducting for Northampton

Agora Services manufactured and installed an 800mm internal diameter air fan duct for Abitec of Northampton.  The job involved the development of two square to round sections, two lobster back 90 degree bends, one lobster back 45 degree bend, a bifurcated section with a drip/condensate hopper inside, a rectangular to square transition, a square 90 degree bend, a round offset duct, eleven straight tubular sections, and one square section.  All sections where fabricated in mild steel, the joints being flanged (some having loose flanges).  The overall length of the tallest duct is 14.2m from the top of the support steelwork, this makes the height of the duct 17.9m from the ground.  Overall the project used approximately 40m of ducting.

All items were hot dip galvanised to give a long lasting weatherproof finish.

Export Order for Ghana

Agora Services successfully completed an export order for a long established customer, Takoradi Flour Mill Ltd.  The project is part of a major expansion plan of their mill at Takoradi, Ghana.  When finished TFM will have increased their milling capacity by 75%.  Agora Services were brought in to design, manufacture, supply and ship the silos required within to handle the additional work.

The scope of supply is six round flour silos, four square raw wheat silos and four square conditioned wheat silos.

The flour silos are 3.5m internal diameter, with an overall height in excess of 15.5m, the construction being a modular bolted panel design.  All joints are externally flanged, meaning the internal ledges are minimised whilst making the wall panels a size that can be containerised for shipping.  The hoppers are of a welded construction, and have been supplied in two parts (the main hopper and a bottom cone)  Due to their size the hoppers had to be stacked in pairs, and shipped as open cargo.  The flour silos were shotblast and painted with a food quality epoxy finish.

The raw and conditioned wheat silos are 4.0m square internally, with a wall height of 16.0m.  The general construction is again a modular bolted silo wall, being formed with pressed steel planks and stiffener rails.  The raw wheat hoppers are square to round single outlet, whilst the conditioned wheat hoppers each have sixteen outlets giving a mass flow discharge.  The hoppers are again fully welded construction for both types, supplied as one piece each.  The silos are built as a block, with diaphragms tying them together at each joint level.  All items have been made so that they can be containerised, apart from the hoppers which had to be shipped as open cargo.

The milling and handling equipment is being supplied by Buhler of Switzerland, and the mill building by Anchor Steel of South Africa.

British Standard Access Ladders for Local Energy Project

Agora Services manufactured, supplied and installed ten British Standard access ladders for Weda Great Britain Ltd at Bedfordia Biogas Ltd, Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire.  The site transforms organic and food waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer.  The process uses anaerobic digestion to breakdown the waste producing methane gas, which fuels a generator producing enough electricity to run the farm and excess power going back into the national grid.

Staff at Bedfordia required daily access to inspect the digestion process and storage tanks.  Weda GB commissioned Agora Services to meet this requirement with the provision of ten made to measure ladders, giving safe access to the existing platforms.

WindowMaster Open New Opportunities at Exhibition

WindowMaster Control Systems UK, part of the Velux group already use Agora Services for small fabrication works, such manufacturing special brackets, or making alterations to standard items.  So when they needed an exhibition stand designing and building they naturally asked Agora again to help.  The brief has to make a stand strong enough to support the automatic ventilation systems, that looked industrial, could be easily transported and erected, and that conceal the control and power cables.  The tubular frames as shown in the photographs above were the result of our collaboration, they are functional, look the part, but do not detract from the products displayed.  By simply changing the brackets, WindowMaster can easily alter or adapt the display as required to suit other items or products.

Once the exhibition was finished the stands were brought back, and are currently displaying demo products in their Kettering office.
