Wyvern League 2008
How it works:
Six clubs Ledbury, Chepstow,
Ross, Cwmbran, Heads Of The Valley and Tewkesbury compete in 5
rounds plus a final. In the rounds points are scored based on
position of swimmers in each event with the winner getting 6points,
2nd place getting 5points down to 6th place who get 1 point. Points
are then added up to give a round winner with the club with the
highest score after each round leading the league. The final is then
spearheaded based on the league positions going into the final.
Age groups are 10years, 11
years, 13years& under, 15years &under plus 9yrs in the relays (no
individual category). Swimmers will swim in the age group based on
age at the date of the final i.e 11th May 2008. Swimmers are able to
swim up in an older age group if required.
Dates & Venues
Each club misses out on one of
the rounds but all clubs compete in the final as long as they have
competed in at least one of the rounds.

Round 1
Due to illness and late withdrawals a very small
team of swimmers travelled to Ledbury to compete in Round1. The
event was slightly delayed due to the non-arrival of Tewkesbury but
once underway the events progressed at the usual hectic pace.
Ledbury once again fielded a large team winning
the first 4 events. It seemed to take a few events for the HVSC to
settle down but by event5 we were up to speed taking our first win.
In total the girls team won 6 events and the boys 4, which with only
7 boys swimmering is an excellent achievement..
It is hard to single out individual swimmers as
each and every one of the team swam outstandingly, giving everything
for the team. Well done everyone....

Harle Howells, Jade Williams, Bethan Jenkins, Courtney Wall, Heidi

Swimming for the boys team were : Ben Cuthbertson-Smith,
Alex Jacobs-Lewis, Rhys Gillett, Jack Davies, Daniel Atkinson, Harry
Davies and Alex Gregory.

Round 2. Cwmbran - Pontypool Leisure Centre
Round 2 of
the league hosted by Cwmbran SC was held in Pontypool Leisure
Centre. The HVSC team consisting of 17 girls and 9 boys took
inspiration from the Welsh rugby teams win over England to
deliver a blistering performance and narrow the gap to Ledbury.
The girls
team continued to deliver a very high standard of swims winning 6 of
the 26 events. The 10yr girls relay team of Hannah Beetham, Rebecca
Evans, Jade Williams, Issy Morris and Harle Howells easily won both
freestyle and medley relays. In the individual events the girls swam
outstandingly to rack up the points tally and achieving many new
personal best times along the way, particularly in the younger age
groups.
The boys
team were up against it from the start. With only 9 boys available
to swim most had to swim up an age group to allow a team to
participate. Nevertheless, they proved more than a match for the
opposition and took valuable points towards the total tally.

Round 3 - HVSC Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre 16th
March...
The HVSC hosted Round3 at Ebbw Vale and were joined
by Ledbury, Cwmbran, Chepstow and Ross. Some late withdrawals from
the team due to illness forced late changes to the HVSC swim lists,
nevertheless the team delivered it's usual high standard of swims
winning 13events (8 by the girls and 5 by the boys) to come second
overall to a very strong Ledbury team. This round saw some of the
HVSC less experienced swimmers compete for the first time which we
hope will encourage them to have ago at further competitions in the
future.

Jack Davies, Sam James, Rhys Gillett, Connor Edwards, Alex
Jacobs-Lewis, Nicholas Pepper, Cameron Lewis and Luke Steadman.
