On 18th June 2004 the HVSC were awarded Dragon Mark Status, the first club in Blaenau Gwent and, as far as we are aware, also the first in South East Wales Region, to receive this award.
This is a quality award given by Welsh Amateur Swimming association.

HVSC swimmers achieve Qualifying Times

Three HVSC swimmers have now achieved national or regional Qualifying times. Alex Gregory and Harry Davies have both achieved national qualifying times to enter the British National Swimming Championships in July. Emily Atkinson has achieved the qualifying time to join the Regional swim squad. Watch this space for news on other HVSC members who are looking to achieve qualifying times during May.

 

HVSC swimmers selected for Breaststroke skills camp.

Four swimmers from the HVSC were selected to attend a Breaststroke development camp in the Welsh National Pool at the beginning of April. David Meredith, Alex Gregory, Rachel Gillett and Emily Atkinson were selected following excellent performances at the recent Welsh National Age and Youth Championships. The swimmers attended the camp hosted by Russ Barber from the City of Sheffield Swim squad. Accompanying the swimmers were HVSC coaches Phyllis Zagozda and Eve Edwards.

Eve Edwards - new club coach.

The HVSC would like to say congratulations to Eve Edwards on achieving her Level3 club coach. Eve has worked extremely hard over the last year to gather her evidence and pass her exam to achieve this certificate. Well done Eve!!

 

HVSC swimmers join South East Wales Regional & Skills Programme.

 

Four swimmers from HVSC have been invited to join the South East Wales Regional and skills programme. Leah Durham has been selected to join the Regional swim squad and  Harry Davies, Alex Gregory and Emily Atkinson  have been selected to join the regional Skills squad along with other swimmers from across South East Wales.

The programme which selects the best swimmers from across the region to attend a series of development training camps coached by  Martyn Woodroffe.

This is  the second year running  that HVSC swimmers have been invited to join these programmes. Competing for places against swimmers in much larger clubs, it  is a great achievement, and is a reflection of the effort put in by both swimmers and coaches.  Congratulations and well done to all. 

 

Alexander Gregory has also been selected to compete for the South East Wales swim squad in a forthcoming inter-counties meet in Sheffield to be held at the end of October. We wish Alex every success.

HVSC come second place in 2007 Wyvern league

Well done to all of our swimmers that competed in The final of the  Wyvern League in Hereford -they all swam brilliantly winning 12 of the events and coming second in 13. In the overall League standings HVSC came in second to Ledbury. - quite an achievement given this was our first year in the league. All team members that swam in a round of the competition will receive a Silver medal.

Alex Gregory achieves National Qualifying time...

HVSC Alex Gregory finally does what he has been threatening to do for some months and achieve British National qualifying times in the 100 and 200 metre Breaststroke events - Well done Alex we knew you would do it. Alex will now travel to Sheffield at the end of July to compete in the British National Swimming Championships.

Greater Gwent Fastwater Open Meet

Heads Of the Valleys SC & Abertillery SC are joining forces to host our first Open Meet.  Fund raising activities are being held to book the pool and fund other start up activities. The meet which will have senior and junior events  will be held 27th & 28th October in the Regional pool Newport sports village.

Alex Gregory becomes Welsh Breaststroke Champion.

HVSCs Alexander Gregory once again proved his status as the top 12 year old Breaststroker in Wales by winning Gold medals in both the 100m and 200m events in the 2007 Welsh Age Group & youth Championships. See Results for full report.

Blaenau Gwent Sports Personality of the year awards

 

HVSC were announced runners up in the Junior Team category  of the Blaenau Gwent Sports Personality of the year awards. In achieving this award it is good to see the efforts of all of our swimmers recognised within the county. Several of our swimmers attended an enjoyable  Award Ceremony hosted by the BBCs Jason Mohammed to receive the award. 

 

HVSC – Wins Top Visiting Club.

HVSC had  a very successful day at this years Christmas Cracker sprint Meet winning the Top Visiting Club trophy competing against much larger clubs such as Cardiff and Pontypool. Successes also for Hannah Beetham, Harry Davies and David Merdith who took Top Swimmer trophy's in their age groups. Full report on the Results page.
