Exeter Tutorial College

Welcome from the principal

Two Year Courses
Students starting out on a two year A level course are encouraged to study for four AS level qualifications initially although this is not compulsory. They may then decide to continue with A2 modules for all four, three or two subjects. Any of these choices should be acceptable for University entrance. Certification on AS level does not prohibit further use of these modules in future years to contribute towards a full A level.

One Year Courses
Students will be able to take certain AS modules in January and to proceed to retake these modules, if desired, together with three A2 modules to complete the A level in June. Certification will be for an A level and for the included AS level.

Retake Courses
Students retaking A levels will have a number of options available to them. These will be fully explained and discussed at their interview with due consideration being given to the grades required for their chosen course.

Students who have an AS level certification may retake any of these modules twice and the subsequent modules results may be used for aggregation together with A2 modules for final A level grades. Thus an AS certification does not prevent students from retaking one or more modules to improve their result for A level certification.

Students who have achieved an AS result with one Board at their previous school, may be able to transfer to a different Board for A2 modules, if the AS modules involved are accepted by the subsequent GCE awarding body. Written permission is required from the Board involved. The College will work with the student to explore all possible options when this situation does occur.

Students may choose to combine retake courses together with a new A level or AS level to enhance the strength of their UCAS application.

Specialist Courses
LNAT is requires by Law applicants for most of the prestigious courses. Students are advised to check with the universities of their choice when they need to take this test.
