  Commission from the Culture Company to produce a series of portraits of individuals who have a passion for their built environment, architecture and communities for the Yorkshire Architecture Week brochure.

 Nov 2003 - present Transhumance in Romania
Click here to link to Romania Travel grants from the European Cultural Foundation and Arts Council England, Yorkshire to undertake research for a new project about transhumance and rural life in Northern Romania. I am currently working with Impressions Gallery, York to develop this project into a touring exhibition in 2007 and have received a further G4A grant in 2004 for this project. Published in 8 photojournalism in June 2005.

April 2003 - present Focus on Farmers (commissioned by Aune Head Arts with Beaford Arts)
Artist in residence on an Exmoor hill farm where I lived and worked with the family to produce work documenting their lives and relationship to stag hunting and was mentor to a textile artist. This work is currently touring venues in the South-West.

2001/3 Moor and Dale
Click here to link to Moor and Dale A commission from Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to produce new work about the people and landscape of the area. Selected work from this commission was shown at the Nidd Castle Shooting Box on Lofthouse Moor during the 2003 Nidderdale Festival, The Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate (31st January to 21st March 2004) and The Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes (June - August 2004). Moor and Dale was exhibited at the Dennis Potter Gallery, Ross-on-Wye as part of the Hereford Photography Festival, October 2004.

2002/3 upshoots
Click here to link to upshoots A collaboration with writer, Pat Borthwick and Rural Arts North Yorkshire to produce work about the people and landscape of the Howardian Hills AONB for a series of exhibitions and accompanying booklet. A series of community workshops were held in villages in the AONB during 2004.


July 2002 'Hedgerow' - Community Arts Workshops at Crayke School as part of upshoots.
Week long project in collaboration with writer Pat Borthwick using poetry, photography, new technology and performance techniques about local hedgerows with children age 4 - 10.

July 2002 Pavilion's Switched On Programme, Nak-sha, Leeds
Documentation of Nak-Sha project and portraiture of participants as part of multi-media projection for a performance at West Yorkshire Playhouse by SAMyo, the UK's South Asian Music youth orchestra.

2002 Norton Wildlife Watch Group (junior branch of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust)
Rural Arts project to produce A year beside the Derwent, calendar 2003 in collaboration with writer, Pat Borthwick and the young people of Norton Watch.

2000/01 Added Value - Littoral's Digital Arts and Farming Project
Click here to link to Added Value Funded by the Arts Council New Audiences Programme I worked with hill farmers in Yorkshire and the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire looking at diversification and the changing role of farming women as well as continuing to document day to day life. My work was featured on BBC 1 Countryfile on June 3rd 2001.

September 2000 Artist in Residence at Gil society studio-workshop, Akureyri, Iceland
Click here to link to Iceland I ran photography workshops at Kompanii (Information and Cultural Centre for young people age 16 - 25) and worked on a personal photography project about 'hlunnindi', the peripheral resources attached to a farm or community. Support was received from Agfa, Kentmere Ltd, MOVE and Yorkshire Arts Training and Development Scheme.

March 2000 - November 2000 LAMB - photography commission
Click here to link to LAMB One of 7 projects commissioned by The Culture Company as part of Brilliant. In partnership with Yorkshire Arts and part of Year of the Artist, this work was exhibited at Impressions Gallery, York between 17th Nov 2000 and Jan 6th 2001. I have produced a series of 28 photographs with text and accompanying sound track about the hill farmers of the North York Moors looking at their relationship to the land, their animals and their day to day work in a period of change and insecurity for the farmers. A regularly updated email diary was viewable on the internet. Published in Yorkshire Life (March 2001), Photo Art International (Issue 23 April/May 2001) and Ag Darkroom Practice & Photography Vol 24.

Frbruary 2000 - May 2001 Peabody People project
Click here to link to Peabody People Commission to interview and photograph Eddie Wainwright for the 'Peabody People' project, the Peabody Housing Trust's Millennium book collection. 10 photographers worked with 10 of their London tenants, producing a series of images based on quotations by that person talking about experiences from their life. Published May 2001 and exhibited at the Spitz Gallery, London, 17 January - 7 February 2002.

January 1999 - present Eat Better, Eat British
Click here to link to Eat Better, Eat British My personal project 'Eat Better, Eat British' is concerned with issues around farming and food production and consists of portrait and landscape photographs based in the area of Yorkshire where I live and work. I have received a Yorkshire Arts Photography Production Award for this project. This work has also received an Honorable Mention in the Oskar Barnack Award 2000 by Leica for a picture story expressing the relationship of man to his environment and was projected at the 31st Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, France on 6th July 2000. Published in the British Journal of Photography, 6.9.00.

May 1999 Photographic Artist - Cornerhouse Gallery, Manchester
'Histories of Place': 2 - day photography and digital imaging project for adults in response to Hart Island Exhibition at Cornerhouse Gallery, Manchester. The workshop participants were encouraged to explore aspects of memories and spaces in response to the exhibition using a variety of experimental techniques demonstrated by myself and a digital artist.

May - July 1998 Photographic Workshop Leader - Photo 98 and The Van Plan / CYC
Working alongside digital artist on Photo '98 funded workshops with young people in Thirsk, Northallerton, Richmond and Askrigg, in conjunction with the Van Plan and working on the theme of 'Out of Space, Out of Time' for a touring exhibition. Techniques involved: use of compact and SLR cameras and tripod, black and white film processing and printing, image transfer onto fabric, digital photography and use of Photoshop, photographing people and landscape / environment.


August 1990 - August 1992 Living in a Lamp Post - Personal work
A document of lighthouse life and the automation of lighthouses which has been widely exhibited and published and was funded by a wide range of organisations including Yorkshire and Humberside Arts.
