Daily Lent Addresses

800 Years of Faith

Background to this year's Lent Talks

This year Liverpool celebrates the 800th anniversary of its royal charter and Liverpool Parish Church celebrates 750 years of continuous Christian
worship at the heart of the city.  Naturally, therefore, this Lent is a time to look back: to see where we've come from and to give thanks for all that
has been achieved over these many centuries.  Even more importantly, however, we look back to find out where we are going in the future, to take
the long view and to get a sense of where we're heading - indeed of where exactly it is we are right now.

At a time of conflict over faith schools, rows concerning the wearing of religious symbols and disquiet about the relationship between western and
Islamic culture, there has never been a more important time to do this - to explore the contribution of faith to our city and our world over the past
eight centuries and to ask what resources Christianity (and other faiths) has to guide and nourish us for the next 800 years.

This year's Lent Addresses speak directly to this pressing concern.
