| SLEEP
DEPRIVATION - A HAZARD TO YOUR HEALTH
Anthony
Burgess once said, "Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore
........ and you sleep alone!"
We
all know snoring is a bit of a laugh and the snorer is the butt
of many a joke, but it is not much of a joke when you have to live
with it.
Each
and every night, after your days work is done, you need about 7
to 8 hours of undisturbed sleep to enable your mind and body to
restore themselves. You need to wake refreshed and renewed in the
morning so that you are able to cope with the next days problems.
It
is estimated that up to 5 million adults in the UK, some 8% of the
population, snore habitually and though it occurs in both sexes
it is twice as common among men than women. However it can eventually
affect all of us, for as we get older and heavier so the likelihood
of developing a snoring condition increases.
And
remember it is not just the snorer who suffers, it is his/her partner
too. You both end up suffering from sleep deprivation and you both
end up with its associated problems. You wake in the morning as
tired as when you went to bed. Fatigue and exhaustion make you irritable,
short tempered and unapproachable. It causes strain amongst all
involved, brings arguments - some of which become so protracted
that they can eventually end in divorce.
As
the lack of sleep becomes more prolonged so some sufferers go to
sleep even when eating, or over the sink, or in conversation; this
is just an embarrassment. Worse, much worse, are those who fall
asleep whilst driving.
Sleep
deprivation can effect your love life, your marriage, your family,
your job, your business and, yes, even your very life. No, it's
no laughing matter.
