Built from April to July 1999 - Registered Aug 1 st 1999

Based upon published design by Ron Champion using a 1978 Mk2 Ghia Escort as donor car.

Current Spec

Engine : Toyota 4AGE Twin cam 16 valve 1587cc. Taken from Corolla FWD Gti 16v 1990 model AE92.

Engine Management : Homebuilt Megasquirt engine management system.

Clutch : Corolla AE92 FWD clutch plate with AE82 clutch release bearing. Standard AE92 Flywheel

Fuel Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle throttle bodies modified and fitted to a custom manufactured inlet manifold. Utilises throttle position sender already fitted to bike throttle body unit. The standard Toyota fuel rail and injectors are used which are direct to head inlet port injection. Injectors are rated at 250cc/min,21 lbs of flow and are 13 ohm impedance.
Injection pump is external to tank and is from a Vauxhall 2 litre injected Cavalier. The fuel rail is regulated to 38psi by the standard Toyota regulator. Fuel filter is a new version from same Cavalier car. Petrol Tank has a swirl pot fitted within with an alloy pre-filter external prior to pump.

Radiator : Uprated large 3 core.

Hoses are Toyota top hose standard plus straight Gates model VF223 convoluted hoses with joint sections.

Fan : Electric fan from early Datsun Cherry controlled by aftermarket electric thermoswitch.

Gearbox : Toyota T50 5 speed with home made remote gearlever extension. Crankshaft spigot bearing SKF 6001 = 28mm diam x 12mm inner.

Axle : Ford Escort Live axle. Timken type 3.89 :1 ratio. Fitted with Quaife ATB diff

Wheels : TSW Razor 6J x 15 with ET18 offset

Tyres : Yokohama AVS Sport sized 195/50 x 15.  Wheels are for Track and Road use.

Suspension : Front – Double fabricated oval tube wishbone

Lower swivel ball joint Maxi

Upper balljoint Transit drag link end.

Rear – Escort Live axle with trailing arms and Panhard rod lateral location.

Poly Bushes from MK Engineering

Track Data : Length front to rear wheel centreline = 2338mm

Front and rear track width, tyre centre to centre = 1300mm

Brakes : Bias bar setup master cylinders with floor mounted pedals. Fluid reservoir is from Ford Focus late model.

Mini hydraulic brake light switch fitted to 'T' piece in brake line.

Front : Cortina Mk 5 Front Hubs.

Wilwood 4 pot calipers and drilled, ventilated discs, aluminium bells. Black Hawk pads.

Rear : Escort 8 inch drum brakes.

Shortened Escort handbrake cable.

Shock absorbers : AVO Adjustable shocks - 22 Position Coil spring over.

Springs : Front: Shock 12 inch long x 1.9 inch dia. Spring 250 lb x 9 inch length.

Rear: Shock 13 inch long x 1.9 inch dia. Spring 175 lb x 8 inch length.

Steering : 2.4 turn Quickrack steering rack with custom joining section to a Sierra collapsible steering column fitted with Sierra control stalks. Polybush mountings to rack.

Column bulkhead bearing/mount is Ford part (3 items).

Total cost of £3 for the 3 parts.

Seats and belts : Custom fibreglass race bucket seats from MK Engineering.  Harnesses are Willans 3 point Clubman for road passenger and 6 Point Race Harness for driver use.

Headlights : 5 inch Chrome Wipac Halogen with sidelight.
