March 7th

The spring indoor season has almost been and gone.  A number of club athletes have produced excellent performances in the Essex indoor, the South of England and National AAA's.

Top marks for the winter indoors goes to Ellie Besford who collected the under 15 girls AAA's title at Birmingham, setting a championship best performance with an indoor pb of 3.10m.

South of England multi's witnessed a tough battle between club mates Elizabeth Ridley and Ellie Besford for the bronze medal. The final 800m event saw Elizabeth pull away and win with 2474 points and a club record.  Ellie scored 2428 for 4th place.

SoE indoor champs saw few Chelmsford athletes taking part.  Those that did faired well. Ellie Besford claimed a championship record with a 3.01m vault, whilst U20 Mike Reed vaulted 4.10 for bronze, Elizabeth Ridley long jumped 4.86 for a silver, Mark Woodley 4th in U20's 800m, Jessica Tappin 5th in the U20 60m, Deji Akande 5th in the U17m 60m, Alex Lusty 6th in U17w long jump, Andrew Harrison 5th U15B shot in 10.63.

In the Essex Champs top honours went to Nathan Greenaway for his hurdles victory in 9.5, this was backed up by a 2nd place in the 60m.  In the same under 15boys age group Fraser Hubbard took gold in the shot with 11.33 and silver in the long jump with 5.17m, missing gold by 2cms.  In her first year of competition under 13 Hannah Smithdale ran well to clinch gold in a close 60m and with a 4.13 jump took silver in the long jump.   In the under 15 girls Biz Ridley leaped to 1.51 high jump for gold and followed that by 4.87 long jump gold.  Calvin Barnes went over 6m to pick up a silver in the JM long jump, whilst Mike Read vaulted 4.15 to pick up the gold.   Deji Akande produced a 60m championship record with a 7.1 run in the under17 men's 60m and English schools champ Sam bailey continued his high jump successes with a 1.75 first place.  Ellie Besford completing in the under 17's pole vault was another victor in 2.90m and club mate Rachel Roberts, a javelin thrower normally took the shot gold with 8.15m.  Multi eventer Jessica Tappin had a very successful weekend winning the junior women's 60mh in 9.2 and the high jump in 1.60m.  Aug 26th - Southern Intercounties

Great to see a number of Chelmsford under 17w  athletes in action representing Essex at the regional Southern Counties at Ashford Maria Rose stadium.  The athletes helped Essex to victory by 7 points over close rivals Kent.  The girls, Hannah Besford, Ellie Besford, Katie Hartigan, Rachel Roberts and Lyndsey North.  Each athlete performed to a high standard against strong opposition.

Hannah Besford jumped to 3rd in the triple jump with a 10.74m leap.  Her younger sister Ellie won a pole vault completion with a UK leading vault of 3.10.  This vault placed Ellie no 1 in the UK .  Katie had a busy afternoon in the throws with a 3rd place in the hammer with a 25m throw, followed by a 6.60 shot to earn valuable points for Essex .  Rachel another thrower launched the javelin 32m to secure a win for Essex .  Lynsdey who is the sprinter amongst the pack had a busy time with action in the 100m, 200m and relay for Essex .

 July 20th

This is turning out to be one of Chelmsford's finest seasons.  The Southern men's team are 2nd in their division and set for promotion with one match remaining.  the Southern Women's team are 5th in division one after two recent match victories, again their best performance ever in this league.  The EYAL team are 4th and competing very strongly.  In addition there have been some very fine personal performances in recent weeks which will be mentioned here in due course.

 June 24th SWL R 3 - Chelmsford

Our first league victory for many seasons was finally welcomed in this home fixture.  A solid turn out made all the difference, with the juniors performing really well with many fine individual performances on the day, none more so than Charlotte Howarth who increased her club pole vault record to 2.90. (results) & latest club record list for the year.

 June 18th EYAL Round 2 - Chelmsford

An excellent home win keeps the team on track for another year.  A sprint double by Elise Walker in the under 15g added to an excellent long jump leap by Alex Lusty of 5.10.  Hannah Besford improved her TJ PB to 10.34. On the down side we were very under strength in the under 17 men filling just 12 out of 25 events!! (results).

June 4th Anglian league round 2 - St Ives

This league continues to provide a full timetable covering all events and giving plenty of options to club athletes.  The good news is that Chelmsford continue to do well.  St Ives was a scorching day with all bar the under 13 boys winning their age group match (results).

May 27/28th SoE Champs at Chelmsford

Despite these being 'home' Championships the opposition proved extremely tough with medals very hard to come by.  The result set is available via the SoE link.  Top performers over the weekend included young Ellie Besford (u15g) who finished 4th in the pole vault with 2.30m and only missed a probable medal due to the weather halting the event at a critical stage. Natasha Davis produced a pb to make the final in 12.03 (75mh). Alex Lusty u15g leaped to 5th in the ling jump with 4.84.  Harry McQueen ran an excellent 100m in 11.98(heat) to take 5th in the final. In the throws the best effort went to Lewis Taylor in the u17m hammer a 6th place finish with 45.95. Gemma Phillips ran well to reach the 1500m final in which she finished 10th in 5.11.7.

 May 20th SWL at Portsmouth

The encouraging season start continues with a third place and good points tally. Club records tumbled in the pole vault with Kate Alexander raising the senior record to 3.10 and junior women Charlotte Howarth raising the outdoor record to 2.80.

Second place finish in the opening match was a good result with many youngsters not available so early in the season. Club results.

May 8th EYAL at St Albans
